The 2007 vampire action-horror movie Rise: Blood Hunter could have been a small hit. Not only were vampire films very popular at the time, the cast includes well-known actors Lucy Liu, Michael Chiklis, James D'Arcy, Carla Gugino and even Marilyn Manson. It was directed by Gothika and Snakes On A Plane writer Sebastian Gutierrez and executive produced by Sam Raimi.

Unlike most movies of its genre, it even premiered at a notable film festival, New York's Tribeca Film Festival. On top of all that, it showed plenty of skin.

Samuel Goldwyn Films released Rise: Blood Hunter in 63 U.S. theatres, where it grossed just $59,371 in its opening weekend. The few critics who saw the film dismissed it as a ripoff of better vampire movies, and Rise: Blood Hunter only lasted two weeks before being removed from theatres. It made just $114,306 in U.S. theatres, and its $2.7 million overseas gross wasn't enough to keep it out of the red.
