10 Movies So Predictable Everyone Thought They Were Tricking Us
6. Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek Into Darkness pulled a similar trick to Spectre a few years prior, as once Benedict Cumberbatch was cast in the main villain role, it didn't take fans long to twig that he was most likely playing a rebooted version of iconic Trek baddie Khan.
Cumberbatch and director J.J. Abrams of course kept up the facade that he was playing John Harrison, a name Khan assumes until roughly half-way through the movie.
Abrams' love of the "mystery box" and him doubling down so aggressively on keeping Khan's presence a surprise ultimately backfired, as it only made the inevitable reveal that much more obvious, and so utterly unremarkable as a result.
It certainly would've been a neat trick if Abrams was pulling a double-twist and Cumberbatch had indeed been playing Harrison or one of the many classic villains from Trek lore instead.
Given that fans guessed the Khan twist a solid year before Star Trek Into Darkness came out, it was a long, tired path finally getting to the rather flat reveal, especially as the cast and crew did the movie no favours by actively engaging with the enigma for that entire year.
Abrams has since claimed he regretted making such a big deal out of the Khan reveal.
