10 Movies So Sad You Can Only Watch Them Once
1. Requiem For A Dream (2000)
This is it: Requiem for a Dream is the ultimate "Great film I'll never watch again", and it's easy to see why. Even its write-up is devastating.
The drama follows four people all deeply affected by drug addiction. Sara (Ellen Burstyn) has started taking pills to lose weight so she can fit into her favourite dress for a gameshow. Meanwhile, her son (Jared Leto) and his friends (Jennifer Connolly and Marlon Wayans) slip into addiction past the point of no return.
Led by four truly outstanding performances - especially from Burstyn, whose very face throughout will leave you in tears - Requiem for a Dream is an awe-inspiring, brilliantly made and important movie about addiction, but it comes with no hope.
With no peace from the torment, Requiem is relentless in its horrors, and by the time it winds to its cruel conclusion you'll probably just want to go to bed and never think about it again.
