10 Movies Starring Supernatural Actors

4. Watchmen - Jeffery Dean Morgan (again!)

Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Alan Moore’s seminal graphic novel is a divisive movie, with some loving it and hailing it as Snyder’s best movie, whilst others feel he failed to fully capture the intricacies of the graphic novel.

Big Daddy Winchester’s role in the movie, whilst technically brief, is actually a pivotal part of the plot. Jeffery plays a retired superhero named The Comedian. His death is what sparks off the entire plot of the film and he features in several flashbacks throughout. Much like some of Jeffery’s other roles, The Comedian is a dark-edged fellow. Despite the fact he is technically a hero his morals are, at the best of times, questionable and at worst downright reprehensible.

Morgan brings a gruff and no-nonsense element to the character, and director Snyder is on records saying this is one of the reasons that he cast the actor. “It’s hard to find a man’s man in Hollywood. It just is. And Jeffery came in and was grumpy and grizzled and cool, and I was, like, ‘OK! Jeffery is perfect.’”

Watchmen is a pretty good, if somewhat long, movie and a interesting take on the superhero formula that’s been a mainstay of Hollywood for nearly twenty years now. Showing the effects that superhero’s have on the societies that they live in and the effects that aging can have on societal icons. The film has a spectacular sequence near the beginning set to a Bob Dylan soundtrack that shows how history has been altered by the presence of super-powered beings.
