Famously, Supernatural has provided a home to many alums from The X-Files, including guest stars, writers and directors. The two shows have a lot in common and it isn’t hard to see why there is crossover in their fan bases.

Mitch Pileggi played A.D. Walter Skinner on The X-Files, a by-the-book career man who, perhaps deep down, rather likes Mulder and Scully despite the headaches they cause him. In Supernatural he played Samuel Campbell, grandfather of the Winchester boys and a hunter in his own right. In both roles, Pileggi brings a stoic and solid portrayal to his roles.

The X-Files: I Want To Believe, is the second movie in The X-Files franchise and more stand-alone compared to the first movie which was steeped in the show’s infamously confusing and long-running mythology. The movie feels very much like an extended episode from an early episode of The X-Files and captures a lot of that early Supernatural feel as well (before the show began parodying itself and became bogged down in its own mythology).

Though his role in the movie is not huge, fans were thrilled to see Walter Skinner back for the rescue in the third act of the movie and Supernatural fans will get a kick out of seeing him as well.
