2. Batman: Under The Red Hood

Katie Cassidy A Nightmare On Elm Street
Warner Bros.

Whilst Jensen has physically appeared in a few movies in his career, his best appearance thus far is a voice-acting role in the DC Animated Universe movie Batman: Under The Red Hood.

Receiving critical acclaim, this movie is often considered to be amongst the best in the DC Animated films canon. Jensen voices Jason Todd, the second Robin and eventual Red Hood. The movie pulls no punches, opening with a cruel scene in which The Joker beats Robin half to death with a crowbar before leaving him to die in an explosion.

Skipping ahead quite some time, Gotham is visited by a criminal known as the Red Hood, who takes over the drug trade in Gotham but insists that the dealers must no longer deal the kids. He of course comes into conflict with Batman quite quickly and it becomes readily available that he knows all of Batman’s techniques. Enlisting the help of Nightwind, Batman theorises that Red Hood might indeed be Jason Todd.

The film culminates in a scene that examines Batman’s central tenet, his one rule. Jason says he has forgiven Batman for not saving him, but he cannot understand why The Joker is still alive. The film addresses the question as to whether Batman is correct not to kill his enemies or if he causes more damage by repeatedly allowing a maniac like The Joker to live.

In an emotional exchange, Jason and Bruce discuss morality and Batman ultimately reveals that he secretly thinks of killing The Joker all of the time, “not a day goes by” he says. The reason he resists is not an issue of moral code but because Bruce fears that if he begins killing he won’t be able to stop. A fantastic entry in the Batman mythos and a must-see for any fans.
