10 Movies That Actually Do Need A Remake
5. Jumper - Another Terrible Book Adaptation
Filmmakers, if you choose to do a book to movie adaptation, do it properly. You cannot have your cake and eat it too my friends. You cannot be lazy enough to pick a story that is already written, and then rewrite it so heavily that you cannot even recognise the source material. If you can write your own screenplay, don't go looking for pre-written stories.
Look, book fans aren't unhappy that movie adaptations are being made, we want to see our favourite characters brought to life. But we also want to be watching the story we loved in the first place, not your "cinematic" interpretation.
One of the worst examples of this long con goes to the critically panned 2008 movie Jumper. The movie is based on a book of the same name, yet that is pretty much all they have in common.
Fans of the book were extremely disappointed in the adaptation for many reasons, including the fact that the story was replaced with grand sets and a mediocre and rushed plot. But the source material is still there, the book to this day is still many people's favourites, for good reason, and it deserves another chance.
Perhaps now that the YA dystopian movie craze is over, we could get a true adaptation from the source material that isn't worried about fitting in with the other kids, and the book fans definitely deserve one.
