Waterworld has gone down in legend for being one of the biggest box office flops of all time. You may think "biggest flop of all time", that must mean the movie was awful, but that's not exactly the case. Truth be told the film isn't terrible, and actually, the movie eventually did become profitable.
Still, the fact of the matter is that the movie was doomed before release due to it being the most expensive movie ever made.
Many contributing factors wracked up the film's budget, including a hurricane, expensive cast members, accidental drownings, ludicrous theme park rides and much more. Unfortunately, a movie set entirely on the water was just too complicated for the time in which the movie was made.
So that's why it would be a great idea to remake the movie now. With more advanced technology and better safety standards, Hollywood is a lot more equipped for a Waterworld movie. Think of the respect you would gain if you could make a successful, profitable remake. Whoever could pull off that project would go down in Hollywood history as even more of a legend.
