10 Movies That Completely Swap Genre For Just One Scene

1. The Cave - The Empire Strikes Back

Luke€™s training on Dagobah during The Empire Strikes back is fondly remembered by fans, not least because of the unforgettable imagery of Mark Hamill running around with a Yoda puppet on his back. One scene during this part of the film feels like a completely different genre altogether, though. George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, Leigh Bracket and Lawrence Kasdan send Luke into horror territory as he discovers the dark side-infested cave and the vision of his father therein. Throughout this short scene, John Williams€™ score swaps his usual flowing orchestral pomp for sharp, high-pitched and horror-esque tones, as Luke trundles through the dark wilderness. The film itself seems to slow down as Luke duels with the vision of Vader. And when hit helmet bursts open, we witness a type of supernatural horror that the Star Wars movies have never returned to since. Undoubtedly one of the best - and briefest - genre swaps in movie history.
