10 Movies That Completely Swap Genre For Just One Scene

2. Bobby Comes Out - X-Men 2

Bryan Singer€™s X-Men films have always centred on outsider characters, with Professor X€™s mansion often presented as a new home where outcast mutants can build a new family. Singer took the mutants-are-minorities theme to a whole new level in X-Men 2, though with a scene that swaps genres completely. Make no mistake, the scene where Shawn Ashmore€™s character Bobby Drake €˜comes out€™ to his parents isn€™t a scene from the superhero genre. This is a family drama, where Bobby is the €˜different€™ one who his parents don€™t know how to deal with. The closing line of the scene, €œHave you tried€ not being a mutant?€ really hammers home the parallels between mutants and other outsider groups, before Singer cuts away and gets back to his superhero action movie.
