10 Movies That Completely Swap Genre For Just One Scene

4. Murphy Goes Home - RoboCop

RoboCop is best described as a cyberpunk sci-fi action movie. From the strong central concept of a robotic policeman cleaning up a crooked future city, the film spawned a franchise that would endure for years. One scene in the film stands out like a sore thumb, though €“ the scene shortly after RoboCop works out that he used to be a regular cop called Alex Murphy, before gangsters gunned him down gruesomely. After this revelation, RoboCop returns to his former home, and finds that it is up for sale. He wanders around and experiences vivid flashbacks to his previous life. There€™s no action here (until he punches a TV), you€™ll notice. This scene feels like it€™s been spliced in from another film altogether, a tragic drama about a man who lost it all. The change in scoring really helps sell the genre transition, as does Peter Weller€™s excellent performance.
