10 Movies That Could Be The Big Surprise Hit Of 2016

9. Sausage Party

What Is It? A high-end animation about various foodstuffs living in a supermarket, Sausage Party follows a sausage trying to make his way back to his aisle. No, this isn't some new low-ebb for Blue Sky, but an adult CGI flick that's the brainchild of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. So expect lewd attitudes, celebrity cameos aplenty (Edward Norton plays a bagel) and an attitude even sillier than the concept suggests. Will It Be Good? Rogen/Goldberg productions can be extremely hit-or-miss, but simply because this one is so bonkers on a base level (Norton's character is called Sammy Bagel, Jr.) it's hard to think Sausage Party won't bring the funny (as long as it doesn't settle for the concept being the whole joke). Of course, that's no guarantee; The Interview was another "genius" idea for a comedy that didn't quite live up to the world-threatening hype. But Will It Be A Hit? The sheer WTF value of the idea will mean at the very least this'll have an impact. Whether that's a "I can't believe they've made that" or a "I can't believe that was so funny" depends almost entirely on how it lands on opening weekend and how that influences hype. The mid-August release, though, is a prime spot that certainly should help.
