10 Movies That Could Be The Major Surprise Hits Of 2018

4. A Star Is Born

A Quiet Place
Warner Bros.

The Movie: The directorial debut of Rocket Raccoon himself, Bradley Cooper, A Star Is Born is a remake of the 1937 classic and stars Cooper as Jackson Maine, a musician who takes a promising young singer, Ally (Lady Gaga) under his wing.

Why It Could Be A Hit: A Bradley Cooper-led, music-centric Oscar-baiting drama with music from Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson and Lukas Nelson, among others? This is the perfect recipe for an end-of-year sleeper hit.

With the successes of La La Land and The Greatest Showman, musicals are very much "back" (if you're of the mind that they went away in the first place). Both those films were about chasing your dreams and ignoring the naysayers, and this is exactly what A Star Is Born is about, too - it might just strike that same chord with audiences.

And while Cooper isn't always a major draw for audiences, American Sniper's $547 million gross proved that he has the potential to turn a smaller movie into a phenomenon.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
