10 Movies That Could Win Best Picture Next Year

1. Silence

Silence is Martin Scorsese€™s passion project. That simple fact alone already makes it the clear frontrunner to take home the Best Picture Oscar next year. The legendary filmmaker has been trying to make this happen for over 20 years and - finally - he got it made. The basic pitch is that the movie follows two Portuguese Catholic priests, played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver, as they travel through Japan to seek their mentor, played by Liam Neeson. Shusaku Endo€™s novel is not so straightforward however, and their journey is complicated when they realise that the Japanese are forcing Christians to abandon their faith or face potential death. The Revenant may not have won Best Picture, but its contention made one thing abundantly clear: the Academy wants to reward films that were hard to make. Silence fits that bill and then some, with every word on it attesting to a gruelling production. Factor in Scorsese, whose projects been almost can€™t-miss with the Academy over the last decade, and it€™s hard to argue against Silence having very good odds at walking away the big winner next year. What€™s your prediction for the Best Picture winner? Or is it far too early to be thinking about this? Let us know in the comments.
