Clint Eastwoods recent films have been all over the map. Its possible Sully will turn out like J. Edgar, but considering what an immense surprise his last film was, its impossible to count him out of the race. He struck gold with American Sniper and is sticking to another biopic of an American hero in the hopes of finding success with the Academy once again. Sully follows Chesley Sully Sullenberger, the real-life airline captain who safely piloted a failing plane into the Hudson River, saving all of the passengers aboard back in 2009. The story is pretty harrowing and no doubt the film will focus on the events leading up to the crash and how the event changed the life of the meek Sully. Perhaps the most compelling reason for its award candidacy is its lead actor, noted Academy darling Tom Hanks. Viewers rightfully love his work and most of what he touches ends up elevated by his presence. This film has the right subject matter and talent involved to make a move for the win, it just depends on which Clint Eastwood we have directing.
