If theres one thing the Academy seems to love more than anything, its movies about World War II. And while their tastes may have cooled on the subject of late, theres no denying how easy it still is for a well-made war movie to slip right into contention. The Zookeepers Wife just may be this years critically acclaimed war drama. The story, adapted from the best-selling novel, takes place during the German invasion of Warsaw, whereupon the couple that owns the zoo sees it taken over. Left to live in the villa with their animals, the couple soon finds a way to resist by helping escaped Jews hide in animal cages. The real draw here is Jessica Chastain who stars as the very real Antonina Zabinska. Chastain is a powerhouse actor and it seems like only a matter of time before she takes home an Oscar. If this film is anchored by a powerful lead performance and boasts such Oscar-friendly material, its hard to deny that it will be being talked about during the awards circuit next year.
