While many of the movies feature on this list by virtue of speculation, Manchester By The Sea has already emerged as a critical hit. Premiering at Sundance, the drama has earned rave reviews across the board and is already being hailed as one of the best films 2016 will produce, even though the year has just begun. From director Kenneth Lonergan, the film follows Casey Afflecks Lee Chandler as he has to return to his home in Massachusetts in the wake of his brothers death to care for his nephew. Rounding out the cast are the talented Kyle Chandler as his brother and Michelle Williams as his ex-wife. Affleck in particular has already been singled out for his work, although the entire movie's commitment to realism has been praised. Its a long way until next years Oscars and even if Manchester By The Sea is incredible, its slow material is going to require a deft release in order to maintain a possibility of walking away with the crown.
