10 Movies That Couldn't Wait To Spoil The Ending
1. Carrie's (1976 & 2013) Marketing Spoiled All The Money Shots
The Ending
In both the original 1976 adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel and the 2013 remake, the films climax with a ferocious and prolonged sequence where Carrie (Sissy Spacey and Chloƫ Grace Moretz) is subject to a cruel prom night prank: she's named prom queen, only to be showered with a bucket of pig's blood.
Carrie of course gets her revenge, by unleashing her burgeoning telekinetic powers and slaughtering a good deal of the students and teachers inside the gym, whether electrocuted, crushed or burned to death.
Carrie then heads home for a confrontation with her wretched mother Margaret (Piper Laurie and Julianne Moore), leading to Carrie destroying the family home with herself and her mother inside.
How It Was Spoiled
The trailer for the 1976 film flat-out focuses on the prom sequence and features spoilerific footage of Carrie telekinetically launching knives at her mother, while the poster memorably juxtaposes before-and-after images of Carrie in her prom dress and soaked in pig's blood.
As for the remake? Its trailer literally gives away most of the money shots from the prom scene.
Sure, when you've got a climax this legendary you can understand why the marketing team wants to use it to lure people in, but it also majorly spoils Carrie's character arc and what's supposed to be the shocking reveal of her true power.
