2. The Condemned
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GnDpVBQKC8 Dystopian Future: No Reality TV Aspects: Yes Battle Arena: Yes Captive Fighters: Yes Children As Fighters: No If you have ever wondered what would happen if Steve Austin squared up to Vinnie Jones then The Condemned is the film for you. For those who haven't, it's still a half-decent watch if you can get over the fact that it stars an ex-footballer and ex-wrestler in its two main roles. While the film doesn't present the same sort of dystopian aspects that are present in The Hunger Games, the arena that the participants fight in is far more similar to the games than any other film on the list so far. Set on an island, a group of prisoners on death row are purchased and set against each other in an illegal broadcast that is guaranteed to end up being watched by millions. The winner is the last person standing. All very familiar territory made even more similar by the fact that the fighters have a limited amount of time to do each other in before they are all killed and no winner is announced. Whoever walks away the winner gets set free and is given a lump of cash for their troubles. Of course, it all blows up in the face of the producers behind the show - in much the same way Katniss' participation in The Hunger Games sparks rebellion against the leadership of Panem - but this is much more action over substance and the similarities don't stretch much farther than the game itself.
