But before we unveil our #1 entry, let's not forget those films which featured almost silent credits, but couldn't quite resist the urge to include something.

The Blair Witch Project, for example, accompanied its credits roll with an admittedly unnerving ambient hum, while gangster classic Get Carter plays the sound of waves crashing on the shore over the credits, the original Black Christmas chillingly ends with the sound of the wind and a ringing phone, and Dog Day Afternoon lingers on the oddly ominous sound of an airport going about its business after the focal hostage scenario has been violently resolved.

It'd also be remiss not to mention Martin Scorsese's Silence, which despite its title ironically doesn't actually feature a totally silent credits roll.

Instead, we can hear the faint sound of crickets chirping and waves crashing, which at least offers up a serene, meditative aural backdrop to play audiences out.
