10 Movies That End In Utter Silence

Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke tends to feature little-to-no music in most of his movies, typically opting for a brutally realist approach to human drama compared to the more theatrical melodrama of Hollywood.

This is no truer than in his brilliant-but-devastating Oscar-winning 2012 drama Amour, focused on an elderly couple (Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva) as they succumb to the ravages of time.

True to Haneke's detached, arguably cold directorial style, the film ends with the couple's daughter Eva (Isabelle Huppert) visiting their empty home, the implication being that her father, whose fate isn't explicitly shown in the film, has since joined his wife in death.

The credits then roll to absolute silence, ensuring your inevitable ugly-crying can be clearly heard by anyone in the vicinity.
