10 Movies That Fixed Infamous Plot Holes
8. Beauty And The Beast - How Long The People In The Castle Have Been Cursed
It was 26 years between Disney’s animated classic Beauty and the Beast and its inevitable remake in 2017. When preparing for the remake, the filmmakers had 26 years worth of plot holes pointed out by nitpickers online. To appease the fans, Disney simply went down the list to make sure these loose strings were tied in this live-action retelling of the same story.
To begin with, in the animated film, the Beast has until his 21stbirthday to find true love or else he will be doomed to remain a man-buffalo for the rest of his life. But during the song “Be Our Guest,” Lumière the candlestick sings that all of the servants were turned into housewares 10 years before. This means the curse was set when the prince was only 10 years old. But there’s a painting depicting the prince as a fully grown man. Pretty sure they didn’t have those ageing photo apps back in the period Beauty and the Beast is set during.
The remake simply changed the line in the song to obscure the length of time the curse had been going on for. The decision was that they were better off being vague about it instead of involving math, cuz, you know once you involve math, those nerds out there are just bound to get out their calculators.
There’s a whole list of inconsistencies regarding the original Beauty and the Beast floating around the internet, and Disney bent over backwards to address practically every one of them. Was that really necessary? What with this precedent being set, you shouldn’t be surprised about the next entry on this list...
