10 Movies That Hired Famous Actors Solely To Kill Them Off

7. Robert De Niro - 15 Minutes

21 Jump St Johnny Death

While Bobby De Niro hasn’t had the best decade or two, he’s still one of the all-time acting greats, and can lend some class to even the shoddiness movie. 15 Minutes is an all but forgotten thriller from 2001, where he played a veteran cop chasing a couple of killers who videotape and broadcast their crimes.

He teams up with a young hotshot played by Edward Burns, and it plays out like a standard thriller for the first half. Things take a decidedly darker turn around the midway point, where the killers target De Niro, planning to videotape his death and sell it to a big network.

Even when they explain this to him the audience still expects him to escape, only to be stunned when he’s actually murdered. 15 Minutes is quite preachy and patronising with its message, but this scene alone made it worthwhile.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
