10 Movies That Hired Famous Actors Solely To Kill Them Off

3. Bill Murray - Ghostbusters

For years Sony tried to get Ghostbusters III happening, but there was always one, Bill Murray shaped problem; Bill Murray. While the actor had a fondness for the original, he didn’t like the sequel and felt a third movie would just be tacky.

That didn’t stop the studio throwing scripts at him, and it allegedly took him a year to read just one of them before rejecting it. With the tragic demise of co-creator Harold Ramis Sony decided to reboot instead. The film managed to snag cameos from most of the original cast, including Murray.

It has to be said he doesn’t look terribly enthused, and where his Zombieland appearance became an instant classic, his scene here is rather flat. He plays a sceptic on this whole Ghostbusting enterprise – a bit meta really – who inspects their HQ, and demands to see a ghost. They release a spirit from it's trap, which promptly grabs Murray and tosses him out a window.

Since one of Murray’s early demands for a potential third film was that he died early, this one could be seen coming.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
