10 Movies That Ignored Shockingly Simple Solutions
5. Prometheus - Run In A Different Direction To The Rolling Spaceship
Question: You see a giant spaceship crash into the ground and begin toppling towards you. Do you:
A) Run in the same direction as the spaceship is tumbling.
B) Run towards the spaceship.
C) Run in a totally different direction to that of said falling spaceship.
If you answered C then congratulations! You have now graduated from The Prometheus School Of Running Away From Things.
This scene is often talked about when it comes to movies making rather questionable choices, but the fault doesn't just lie with the characters who make the job of running away from a crashing space ship more difficult.
Why kill off any character in such a drawn-out and utterly ridiculous way unless they really deserved it? The audience had barely got a chance to really learn anything about Charlize Theron's Meredith Vickers until the last half an hour of the film, but all her character's death did was make her look massively incompetent and didn't register much impact.
Said spaceship plummeting to the ground should have ended in a fiery explosion and left it more ambiguous to see which characters had survived in the aftermath, without turning into a knock off of an iconic Indiana Jones moment.
