10 Movies That Judged You At The End

Memories of murder
Tribeca Film

Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead's directorial debut Resolution chronicles the efforts of Michael (Peter Cilella) to help his best friend Chris (Vinny Curran) kick his drug addiction by confining him to a rural cabin for a week.

Before long things get weird, and it's eventually revealed that a supernatural entity resides in the area which desires stories. After discovering videos of their apparent future deaths, Michael attempts to satisfy the entity in an attempt to avoid bringing this curse home.

At the end, they seemingly manage to avoid being killed and Chris finally agrees to rehab.

Michael notes that they've seemingly achieved a happy ending, at which point the entity appears before them and angrily rises up into the air, causing Michael to ask it, "Can we try another way?" before it roars and the film abruptly cuts to black.

Clearly, the entity is a thinly-veiled stand-in for the audience, with the protagonists literally asking for another chance to deliver an ending that both satisfies the creature while allowing them to live.

As a metaphor for the creative struggle coming at the end of a movie produced for just $20,000, it'll certainly make the audience think about how quick they can be to judge a movie without considering the blood, sweat, and tears that went into creating it.
