7. Mad Max: The Wasteland

Though Mad Max filmmaker George Miller opted to follow up the iconic Mad Max: Fury Road with a prequel, Furiosa, many fans were far more eager to see Miller's planned sequel to Fury Road, Mad Max: The Wasteland, come to fruition.

Miller said ahead of Furiosa's release that The Wasteland's production would depend entirely on Furiosa's performance at the box office, and with Furiosa bombing catastrophically with audiences - grossing just $173.8 million globally - it's safe to say that the franchise as a whole has been put on ice.

Within days of Furiosa's disastrous opening weekend, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Warner Bros. had "put the brakes" on The Wasteland, which was only in the earliest stages of development.

Couple Furiosa's box office failure with Miller turning 80 years old this coming March, and it seems clear that The Wasteland isn't ever going to happen, and the Mad Max franchise as we know it is surely done.
