James Bond films aren't exactly known for their brutal nature, which made the pre-credit sequence for Daniel Craig's debut a welcome change. Sure, the style and 'classy kills' executed by the British spy over the 50-plus years of 007 films has had its treasures, but seeing Bond execute his first kill in such a gruelling manner had us all on the edge of our seats.

The scene is shot in black and white, a nice little piece of symbolism indicating the start of a new era. Even though we know Bond won't be killed off in the first five minutes of the rebooted franchise, it is still intense, with the audience riding each punch, each headlock, and each smashing blow to the body.

The scene also gets us cheering for the new 007 from the start, with Daniel Craig's initial perception of being too soft looking ludicrous. That assumption came and went very quickly after this frenetic and bruising opening.
