10 Movies That Made You Cheer Brutal Moments
3. The Dark Knight - Batman's Revenge
There are quite a few brutal moments in this Christopher Nolan classic, many from the villainous Joker, but none has the crowd quite so onside than Batman's vengeful attack on gangster Sal Maroni and his men. With the apparent murder of Commissioner Gordon, Batman heads to Maroni's nightclub to take down the man he holds responsible for the Joker's murderous rampage.
With the backdrop of flashing lights and a super loud soundtrack playing in the background, we are treated to the caped crusader breaking legs, bashing heads against walls and throwing henchmen savagely into the crowd. But this is nothing compared to what he does to Maroni, in a scene that reminds us that Batman is not just a hero, but also a vigilante.
As he holds the gangster over the edge of a balcony with a ten metre-plus drop, the Dark Knight is made aware by Maroni that the fall wouldn't kill him. "I'm counting on it," he says in response.
The sounds of Maroni's legs breaking as he collapses to the ground echoes out, as we cheer on a man who we delight in breaking the law for the greater good.
