10 Movies That Made You Say 'WTF Were They Thinking'

3. Human/Cat Hybrids - Cats

Cats is one of the biggest cinematic flops in recent memory. On the stage, the production is one of the most successful musicals of all time, but when adapted for the big screen in 2019, it was enjoyed by almost nobody. Even the stars of the show weren't happy with it.

As is the case with any cinematic disappointment, there were plenty of factors at play, but the most striking was the choice to design the cats like that. They were a strange hybrid of human and feline, and without mincing words, it looked like a nightmare.

Different is good when it's for the right reasons, but if your movie is different because nothing else is quite that bad, then there's a problem, and it all traces back to that initial decision. Quite how this hideous combination of humans and cats was settled on as the final design is a mystery.

Simply using the exact same costumes from the musical would have been a better choice, or even the effects from Cats and Dogs from back in 2001. Hell, Doctor Who did humanoid cats better in 2006!

Almost anything would've been a marked improvement over what they went with.
