10 Movies That Need A TV Spin-Off

5. Bruce Almighty

Bruce Almighty is something of an underrated comedy film, but more to the point, it has a superb premise, in which Bruce (Jim Carrey) decries God's judgements upon him so much that God imbues Bruce with his Holy powers and then takes a sabbatical, to teach him about the responsibility that comes with being a deity. Transposing this concept onto a TV show format would be incredibly easy; have God bestow some whiner with the powers in the same way as in the film, but change the plot slightly so that God's departure is a lot longer, and a running joke could be how he frequently returns to offer "Bruce" (or whoever the new character is) sage advice without actually telling him when he's going to return to God duties himself. Each episode would have Bruce balancing his powers, using them for amusing means to mess with his enemies, and then (occasionally) using them for good. Keep the tone mischievous but a little heartfelt when needed, and you've got the makings of a hit show. Casting God is particularly important to get right, given that Morgan Freeman's shoes are some pretty hefty ones to fill.
