10 Movies That Needed Reshoots For INSANE Reasons

2. To Make It R-Rated - Snakes on a Plane

In a rare case of reshoots being ordered simply to beef up a film, the first trailer for Snakes on a Plane became something of a surprise viral hit, and seeing the way the winds were blowing, studio New Line Cinema decided to take full advantage.

With Internet commenters clearly expecting a riotous R-rated action-horror romp, New Line ordered five days of reshoots which, by amping up the violence and profanity, would transform the film from a more "family-friendly" PG-13 romp into an R-rated outing.

The most prominent change was having Samuel L. Jackson utter the immortal quip, "I've have had it with these motherf**king snakes on this motherf**king plane!"

In a recent interview reflecting on the film, Jackson said that he originally lobbied for an R rating but was rebuffed, and that the reshoots ultimately cost the studio "a bunch of money."

Though the R-rated reshoots clearly brought the film more in line with audience expectations, it ultimately still underperformed at the box office, making it clear to Hollywood that viral buzz doesn't necessarily translate to mainstream success.
