10 Movies That Only Make Sense At The End
3. Don't Look Now
Nicolas Roeg's psychological horror masterpiece Don't Look Now has lost none of its gripping power over almost 50 years, following a couple, John and Christine Baxter (Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie), as they travel to Venice following the accidental drowning death of their young daughter.
Throughout the film, John encounters visions of what appears to be his deceased daughter, wearing the distinctive red raincoat she wore when she died.
In addition to this, John receives ominous warnings of danger and sees the inexplicable sight of Laura in a funeral procession in Venice despite her being in England at the time.
This all comes to a devastating head in the film's climax, where it's revealed that John has in fact been witnessing premonitions of his own death and funeral.
When he pursues the red-hooded figure one more time, he discovers that it isn't his daughter but a dwarf serial killer, who promptly slits his throat.
Given that much of Roeg's film is defined by its wilfully confusing - yet absolutely brilliant - non-linear editing, the ending clarifies the overarching narrative sweep with sledgehammer force. However, you'd be smart to watch the whole thing again.
