10 Movies That Pissed People Off Before They Even Released

3. The Emoji Movie

Some entries on this list pissed people off with their trailers, some with their first glimpses that came before any actual footage, and some even earlier than that with the initial casting news. This one, however, rubbed potential audiences the wrong way just by existing.

It's been proven in the past that Hollywood can make a film out of just about anything, but in 2017 this was pushed further past the line than ever before with a movie based around nothing more than Emojis.

The lack of creativity and formulaic plot didn't help, and the eventual 6% score on Rotten Tomatoes was a surprise to absolutely no one. Still, the fact that there was a movie based around Emojis alone was enough to turn people off straight away - something that not even casting Patrick Stewart as the Poop Emoji could fix.

Then there was the disastrous marketing campaign that sparked outrage with a single Tweet. The post in question put an Emoji in a Handmaid's Tale poster, with the tagline Blessed be the Emoji. Considering the dystopian future the series is based around, this couldn't have been a more tone-deaf bid for attention, that ultimately backfired. As if The Emoji Movie wasn't facing enough of a challenge already.
