10 Movies That Put Fans In Denial
8. The Godfather Part III
It's difficult to find a film with as much to live up to than this one. Capping off the Godfather trilogy, this instalment completes the story of the Corleone family a whole 16 years since we've last seen them in what many consider to be one of cinema's all-time classics in Part II.
Maybe if Part III was presented as a stand-alone film, it would've received more praise than it did. After all, the tragic, Shakespearean downfall of Michael Corleone was handled expertly, in a slow burn that built up to ignite an explosive finale.
Everything else around that though makes it pale in comparison to its predecessors. Other characters weren't given much to do, with vital connections between them excluded, making them seem more like plot devices than three-dimensionally fleshed-out people.
The acting in those scenes also left a lot to be desired at times, with Sofia Coppola particularly appearing out her depth. Because of this, the main storyline's slower pace became sluggish, leaving audiences waiting for something to happen that elevates it from other mob films that simply did it better. Given the massive influence the previous films had on cinema in general, that's a real shame.
