10 Movies That Redeemed Hated Characters In A Single Scene
5. Steppenwolf - Zack Snyder's Justice League
There were many, many things wrong with the 2017 theatrical version of the DCEU's Justice League.
However, arguably the most offensive of them all came in the form of a main villain lacking any sense of motivation or presence, brought to life with some straight-up embarrassing, below par CGI. A two-dimensional, computer generated monstrosity by the name of Steppenwolf.
So, it made sense that Zack Snyder would want to go out of his way to prove that he once had brighter hopes for this much derided figure when it came time to finally present his director's cut to the masses in 2021. Showing that even the most hopeless of lost causes can be redeemed, Snyder polished up the uncle of Darkseid with some shiny new armour and restored a much needed sense of purpose to the character as a whole.
This was best demonstrated in the scene involving Steppenwolf begging to return home when conversing with DeSaad, a moment which unveiled a lost soul doing everything in his power to get back in his master's good books. And just like that, Steppenwolf went from bland big bad, to three-dimensional force of evil.
Shame it took four years to get there, though.
