4. Red - War For The Planet Of The Apes

As the epic Planet of the Apes prequel trilogy entered its final instalment, Matt Reeves introduced us to the concept of ape turncoats working under the Alpha-Omega military faction, given the derogatory name of 'donkeys'.

One of the first of these former allies-turned-enemies we're introduced to in War for the Planet of the Apes is Red, a gorilla who once followed Caesar's Dawn sparring partner Koba, during an attempted attack on an ape outpost.

Despite being captured by Caesar and his crew, Red would escape and later have a hand in imprisoning and executing his former pals.

However, after witnessing the resolve of Caesar first-hand, and being told by the legendary leader that he would always be seen as lesser than the people he was currently being commanded by, Red would finally have a change of heart.

Said moment came during the climactic final battle as Red opted to pick off a human soldier by the name of Preacher just before he could kill Caesar with a crossbow. His redemption would be short-lived, however, with the gorilla falling to a bullet to the back of his head shortly after his heroic last stand.
