Mick Taylor is a character that is hard to view objectively, because you know he is the antagonist in a horror film, and you know he was inspired by a real life killer. However, backpackers Liz, Kristy and Ben were at first incredibly grateful that he happened to turn up when their car broke down in the middle of the Australian desert.

As their apparent saviour, he seemed friendly and was not only able to tow them to his house where he offered to fix their car, he also offered them drinks while they sat around his campfire. However, when they wake up, after being drugged by him, his true colours are now blatantly apparent.

Clearly xenophobic and psychopathic, he proceeds to torture and sexually assault the three friends in horrific ways. Only Ben manages to escape with his life, and was initially suspected of the murders of the girls, with no one believing his story.

Mick's gleeful walk off into the sunset to carry on his rampage on unsuspecting tourists is continued into a sequel, where the extent of his carnage is shown by his basement full of bodies and torture devices.
