10 Movies That Suffered Undeserved Fan Backlash
2. Captain Marvel
So how's that boycott working out for ya, fellas?
For the longest time, it seemed like the MCU was immune to the more idiotic side of comic book fandom. The most we heard out of the less desirable parts of the fandom for a while was some brief racist hissy fits about Idris Elba being cast as Heimdal. And then Captain Marvel came along and then everyone got really angry all at once.
Not only were people angry that a movie about the MCU's first female lead movie having a fittingly feminist tinge to it, but that lead actress Brie Larson had the gall - the audacity - to say things about comic books, comic book industry, and especially Marvel's business practices and how slow they are to be more diverse in their casting, that they did not like.
So while no death threats (that we're aware of) have been issued towards the cast and crew, Captain Marvel has become the new target for every mansplaining YouTuber with way too much time on their hands. To the point where the rant videos are overtaking videos about the actual movie.
But then, anyone who's been paying attention the past two years knew this was coming. Because this backlash is copying out of the playbook of our final entry.
