10 Movies That Teased A Sequel Which Never Happened

4. The Last Airbender

The Last Airbender was based off the first season of Nickelodeon’s successful TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender, however the film was left with widespread criticism before its release due to the whitewashing of the characters by casting white actors in East Asian roles.

There is no doubt that the whitewashing had something to do with the poor box office result with Media Action Network for Asian-Americans calling for fans to boycott the movie due to the controversy.

The film's screenplay, acting, directing, effects, editing, action sequences, storyline and unfaithfulness to the source material plus more were all criticized by fans and critics, with the film being named the worst film of 2010 and even one of the worst movies of all time.

The Last Airbender was originally envisioned to be the first film of a trilogy, with each film based on the three seasons of the show. However, due to the overwhelmingly negative backlash and box office performance the trilogy was scrapped by the production.
