JJ Abrams is also notorious for holding onto his scripts with a vice-like grip. In hindsight, Star Trek Into Darkness might be the first instance where he must have felt the need to ramp up security measures to prevent leaks. Its predecessor was somewhat of an unknown quantity, attempting to revitalise the franchise after The Next Generation films appeared to put it on ice. And it did so successfully, making waves with die-hard fans and average moviegoers alike.

So, anticipation skyrocketed for the sequel, prompting Abrams to take extra precautions when safeguarding the script. Similar to Nolan, he also made actors travel. In this case, they had to go to Santa Monica, find a building deceivingly named 'The National Typewriter Company', and buzz in. Intriguingly, the solo physical version of the script they could read once they got there was printed in black ink on red paper, intended to make it more difficult for it to be photocopied.

All that to prevent a Khan reveal that most fans saw coming a mile off, especially once Benedict Cumberbatch was to play a villainous "new character". Contrary to a certain brand of hair products, it really wasn't worth it.
