It might all be a bit standard practice now, but there was a time when blockbusters went into production with their actual name. Cut to the 1980s, where Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi - the follow-up to one of the most revered sequels of all time - was being made. In an attempt to limit leaks from fans and production staff alike, it would be filmed under a different name, Blue Harvest.

Then Back To The Future Part II also decided to follow suit, calling theirs Paradox during production. And the rest was history, where these days hotly-anticipated productions use the pseudonym trick more often than not. In practice, studios find false names incredibly useful in many different stages of production, especially when putting out announcements relating to casting and shooting specifics.
