10 Movies That Were Almost Completely Unrecognisable

8. Terminator: Salvation Ditched A Super Dark Ending

Terminator: Salvation should have been a triumphant return for The Terminator franchise. The flashy McG was not a popular choice as director, but he convinced people of his passion for the series and managed to snag Christian Bale for John Connor. The signs were good. The original story had death row inmate Marcus awaken post Judgment Day. He meets a young Kyle Reese and they attempt to find John Connor together. Along the way they discover Skynet is actually trying to save mankind before it goes extinct (hence the title Salvation). They built a society of human/machine hybrids, with Marcus already being one. Then Connor finally shows up at the end to destroy this place...and is killed. The resistance decide to preserve his legacy and graft his face onto Marcus to make people think he€™s still alive. They do, and then Marcus turns evil and kills Kyle and the rest of the resistance. End of movie. This script was heavily rewritten when Bale came on with Connor€™s role greatly beefed up, even though he does little of importance. The Skynet saving humanity idea was removed, though a subplot featuring human/machine hybrids was shot but cut out. The original pitch black ending was going to be filmed before it leaked and the internet exploded. It was altered to the rubbish €œHere, have my heart€ climax in the finished product. The planned Salvation trilogy didn€™t happen, and Bale said he€™d never work with McG again. Which was probably entirely reciprocated.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
