10 Movies That Were Too Damn Long

4. 2012 (2009)

Cloud Atlas
Columbia Pictures

Unlike the world within it, this film never ends. 2012 is nearly 160 minutes of mismatched plot threads, weak dialogue, cheesy disaster tropes and mostly unlikable characters who are impossible to root for.

Now, it is a disaster flick, and all of this is really to be expected going in, but because of its length and how poorly put together all the different stories are, it's too hard to get comfortable with what's playing out.

Had it cut out some of the more convoluted and unneeded storylines, there's a solid tale here of a family coming together to survive the end of the world and beat the odds, but this story is lost amongst the picture's more outlandish and pointless segments.

Put it this way: If John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton and Woody Harrelson can't keep your film afloat, it might be time to trim the fat.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
