6. The Nun

Hey, look, it's James Wan again!

If you haven't seen the film, it's a Conjuring prequel that follows Sister Irene (played by Taissa Farmiga, real-life sister to Conjuring star, Vera Farmiga), a young nun who - alongside a troubled priest - is sent by the Vatican to investigate the mysterious, violent death of a nun at a remote Romanian monastery. Throughout the film, they are set upon by a demonic monk called Valak.

A word of warning to all you aspiring filmmakers: if you shoot a horror film in an old, haunted, or otherwise creepy place, you might get more than you bargained for.

Director Corin Hardy certainly did.

He recalled a story where they were filming in a narrow hallway at a real Romanian monastery. He ducked into a dark room to allow a camera to pass by, and saw two men sitting in the room's pitch-black corner. Staying in the room during a take, when it was done he turned to address the men, thinking they were crew members, only to find they were gone.

There was only one exit, and Hardy was standing in it. No one passed by him.
