10 Movies To Open Marvel's Phase 4 (And Why They'd Be Perfect)
3. The New Captain America
As much as it might pain you to admit it, Chris Evans' Captain America is probably going to die at the hands of Thanos in one of the Avengers: Infinity War movies (it'll be a brave and iconic death, don't worry) and his mantle will be passed on to his old friend - and recent enemy - Bucky Barnes AKA the Winter Soldier. The move has been subtly hinted at since Bucky first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with him getting a hold of Captain America's shield in both Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If Marvel Studios are indeed putting their trust in Sebastian Stan to become the new Captain America, they could set him up nicely with his first solo movie as the Phase Four opener. This would give audiences a chance to get used to the idea of him in the role prior to any further team-up movies, would quickly allay (or confirm) any fears audiences have about the idea of Bucky as Captain America prior to Marvel Studios deciding what to do with him in the longer term, and would be clearly indicative of a new era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
