10 Movies Too Excruciating To Watch More Than Once

6. United 93 (2006)

united93 Any movie that chooses to deal with the subject of 9/11 is going to be harrowing by default, but perhaps none so much as writer/director Paul Greengrass's frightening realistic and near-on documentary-like United 93, which chronicles what happened to one of many planes that were hi-jacked on September 11. United 93, though, ultimately failed in its objective to hit Washington, due to those brave passengers who intercepted the terrorists and prevented such things from happening. Everybody on board was killed, of course, which makes Greengrass's movie far harder to watch than you might imagine, despite knowing that information when you go in: the director chooses to steer clear of movie conventions that might help audiences digest such an inherently tragic story in an easy way. What we get is our own seat on board the plane; such a close-knit association makes United 93 tough to process. It's a movie that everybody should see at least once, but once is - in this case - justifiably enough.
