10 Movies We Desperately Wanted To Happen (But Never Will)
7. Gambit
Gambit is perhaps the best known here, having been in the pipeline for years. Chances of it had begun to wane after the continued missteps of the FoX-Men, before the acquisition of Fox (and with it, the X-Men franchise) by Disney finally killed it off for good.
Gambit is one of the most popular characters in the X-Men franchise, but his solitary movie appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn’t live up to his hype. Taylor Kitsch was good but not great, and the script did him no favours either. Not casting the front runner of Josh Holloway seemed like it cost them dearly.
The stand alone movie was supposed to star Channing Tatum, and marked a bit of a passion project for the 21 Jump Street star. He too didn’t seem to be the ideal casting, but clearly cared and had proven that he was capable of springing a surprise.
Undoubtedly, the X-Men are coming to the MCU sooner rather than later. Gambit, as a comic book favourite who offers something different to what they already have, is a dark horse to be an early arrival. His stand alone movie may have gone, but he might still get his silver screen chance.
