Avengers: Infinity War looks set to be a world-changing event, the likes of which the MCU has never seen before. How the hell do you top that?

The answer could lie in Secret Wars. Everyone loves superhero crossovers, and with Captain America: Civil War, Batman v Superman and Thor: Ragnarok, everyone seems to love superhero crossovers where the heroes fight each other, and in that weird little sub-genre, Secret Wars is as big as it gets.

The story - first published by Marvel Comics in the '80s - finds a ton of heroes and villains teleported to the planet Battleworld, where they're forced to fight. Cap, Thor, Iron Man and Spidey all appear in the original story, as does Kang the Conqueror, Ultron and Klaw. It's packed full of exciting confrontations, the kind of geeky spectacle that makes your insides pang with happiness.

This could be the huge event that Phase Four builds up to. By this point, the MCU will probably contain more characters than it ever has done before, so there will be plenty to choose from to insert into this story.

Plus, as already mentioned, Marvel are starting to flesh out the cosmic side of the MCU. Since Secret Wars is set in space, it could introduce new characters it wouldn't be possible to meet on Earth. This could be a major piece of the MCU's rapidly-expanding cosmic puzzle.
