10 Movies Where Every Character Thinks They're The Hero

While the Rambo sequels were all considerably less nuanced and more straight-forward shooting galleries, the original First Blood is a staggeringly complex film in which every major character believes themselves right for quite understandable reasons.

First and foremost we have John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) himself - a war veteran who got little for his sacrifice beyond debilitating PTSD and disdain from the general public.

As the last remaining survivor of his Special Forces unit, Rambo simply wants to find a peaceful way to live.

But Sheriff Will Teasle (Brian Dennehy) doesn't much appreciate Rambo passing through his sleepy town of Hope, Washington, and wants to get him out of the way as soon as possible.

Teasle is absolutely disrespectful and unsympathetic to Rambo, but it's at least easy to see where he's coming from: the guy wants to protect his community from potential troublemakers at any cost.

Unfortunately the situation escalates into violence with the State Patrol and National Guard being drafted in, each soldier evidently convinced they're pursuing a monstrous maniac in Rambo.

And then we have Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna), Rambo's former commanding officer who attempts to act as a go-between and diffuse the situation, as the only man in Hope who can truly relate to Rambo's predicament.

This is a rare case where all of the self-appointed heroes actually end up surviving - in fact, Rambo only kills a single character in First Blood, and it's by accident.
